我的暑假作業- The Hermitage: An A to Z of Art

希望有時間可以全部看完,而不只是翻圖片:P

Introduction

Russia’s State Hermitage Museum is one of the world’s great ‘encyclopaedic’ museums, its vast and varied collections embracing world culture from prehistoric times to the modern age. It provides an excellent basis for this ‘A-Z of art’.

No single book, of course, can cover every term and concept in the history of fine and decorative arts. Our aim therefore has been to introduce the reader to the main subjects and then to new words and ideas, expanding the understanding of some apparently familiar concepts and clarifying misunderstandings that surround others. In doing this, we present the reader with the richness of the Hermitage collections, not only masterpieces of European painting, but the lesser known yet no less fascinating works from prehistory, from Ancient Greece and Rome, from the Orient… Our hope is that you will be inspired to delve further, to understand new aspects of art history and to look deeper into the Hermitage to discover even more of its wonderful treasures.
